A little about me.

My career began in healthcare, helping clinicians and researchers identify patient cohorts for medical research. Getting the data right mattered because people were relying on it to do their jobs.

That responsibility has stayed with me through roles at Amazon, Meta, and Zillow, and through my consulting and teaching. Today, it informs how I build everything from executive dashboards to governed data architecture for AI tools: understand the question, check the information, and make the answer useful to the person who needs it.

I ask questions before recommending a solution. I want to understand the decision someone needs to make, what is getting in their way, and whether a new tool will actually help.

I listen carefully and share my judgment. When I disagree, I explain why. When priorities compete, I help the team make a choice and move forward.

Teaching is part of how I work. Whether I’m explaining a metric, reviewing someone’s code, or documenting a process, I want others to understand the reasoning and feel comfortable making the next decision themselves.

I founded VZN Designs to work directly with organizations that need this combination of technical delivery, clear direction, and team development. I help them improve their analytics, establish trusted data foundations, and use AI to answer business questions.

I’m a husband and father. I enjoy basketball, playing guitar, and a good movie. My family matters deeply to me, as does making time for the people in my life.
